The artistic process
As the son of a WW2 Spitfire pilot and a retired RAF pilot myself, I bring lived experience to every composition I create. Each work begins with careful composition and artistic direction, drawing on decades of firsthand knowledge of aircraft, atmosphere, and the human side of aviation history. Digital painting, selected photo references, and AI-assisted image generation are woven together as creative tools — but the mood, lighting, historical accuracy, and final painterly style are always my own.
Every composition is a limited edition of no more than ten, personally signed, and printed with archival inks on premium cotton rag watercolour papers — Hahnemühle and Canson among them — chosen for their exceptional quality and longevity. The result is aviation art that is both historically grounded and built to last.
